Ok guys, phew. It’s been a crazy 12 hours. As you can see from the post last night, Phil had one more surprise left in store for me. We checked into our cabin in the late afternoon, did some serious grocery shopping, and made ourselves some bangin corn on the cob and fried chicken for dinner.
Then Phil built a true mountain man fire in the firepit outside and we roasted marshmallows, drank beers, and looked at the stars. Just so you know, here’s the view from our incredible Smoky Mountain cabin.

Phil went inside for a minute and came back out carrying the cabin guestbook. In the weeks before our trip, I told Phil that I wrote in the guestbook right before we left the cabin last year and I wanted him to read what I’d written. So I found my entry and read it aloud and then flipped through and read a couple more. Phil kept encouraging me to keep reading to the latest one and I didn’t find this weird at all. I also didn’t notice the entire time I was reading he was down on one knee next to me.
When I got to the last entry it read:
Lauren,
This was the place where I first knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?
Phil
Aaaaaand then there were tears and a ring and a big old YES.
Followed by frantic phone calls and text messages and then the big SOCIAL MEDIA REVEAL. Of course, all of this was accompanied by a huge bottle of champagne that Phil had kept hidden in the car and somehow kept on ice all day. SNEAKY.
Today we head off to go play in the mountains and hopefully relax a bit before things start to get crazy. Thank you to everyone for the well wishes! We couldn’t be happier and we’re so lucky to have such supportive friends and family.
(Also, announcing your engagement via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram is like your birthday x 5,000. We highly recommend it.)
Until next time…
