Extreeeeeme last day!
On our last day in the Smokies, we woke up before sunrise to this incredible view. We packed up the car, put in our warmest layers, and said goodbye to our little cabin in the woods. Then we set our sights on Tennessee to go white water rafting on the Ocoee River. The temperature? 32 degrees. Yikes. We drove an hour and a half to the put-in on the Ocoee where we were supposed to meet the rest...

Phil & Lauren in "DRIVE" (sans scorpion jacket)
Yesterday we spent about 10 hours in the car. Ten. Hours. No we didn’t drive home (that would have been less than 10 hours), we spent all that time in the car exploring the area in and around Smoky Mountain National Park. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds, however, since we were planning on spending the day in the car anyway. Our first destination was the Cades Cove Loop which...

Thank you, Cork & Bean!
All week long we’ve been meaning to give props to the place that has been our connection to the world all week. Being in an isolated cabin in the mountains together has definitely been an awesome way to spend the first days of our engagement BUT it doesn’t really allow for keeping up with the outside world, much less maintaining our rad travel blog. So early in the week, we explored...

Greetings from Yavin 4
Am I right, Star Wars nerds? This place is totally like Yavin 4. (Apologies to all the non Star Wars nerds out there who don’t know what Yavin 4 is and couldn’t care less.) Yesterday Phil and I drove up miles and miles of windy roads to the base of Clingman’s Dome, the highest point in Smoky Mountains National Park. After that we hiked half a mile straight uphill to the...

Travel blog turned engagement blog?
Ok guys, phew. It’s been a crazy 12 hours. As you can see from the post last night, Phil had one more surprise left in store for me. We checked into our cabin in the late afternoon, did some serious grocery shopping, and made ourselves some bangin corn on the cob and fried chicken for dinner. Then Phil built a true mountain man fire in the firepit outside and we roasted marshmallows,...

Weinerville or bust
Day two in Asheville was TREAT YO SELF Sunday so we spent it walking around in amazing fall weather, eating tons of awesome food, and shopping like champs. Brunch in Asheville proved to be as popular an activity as anywhere else but we braved an hour wait to eat at Early Girl Eatery on Wall Street. The food was ridiculous and our bellies were insanely happy by the end of our meal. If you go to...

A girl, a boy, and his beard hit the road
We set off from Richmond for adventure Saturday morning, but not before grabbing a big old Pearly’s breakfast first. After a few truck stop bathroom breaks, many quarters lost (and won) in the push-a-quarter game, and giant activity book of KITTENS, we arrived in Blacksburg, VA, home of Phil’s alma mater, Virginia Tech. We walked around the campus for a while and Phil indulged in...
